Archaeological Monuments Watch

Being the landowner or -manager with an archaeological monument, you’re taking care of a piece of (pre)history: parts of our national archaeological heritage. Your monument can (partially) be lying above ground and be clearly visible, but will most likely be hidden in the soil. The monuments in the landscape contain unique and irreplaceable historical information. This information is stored in artefacts, soil features, soil layers and especially in their interrelationships. The soil archive is the only archive we have for most part of our history. It can tell us a lot about the life, work, religion, struggle and death of our ancestors.

The Archaeological Monuments Watch (AMW) can advise you how to preserve and manage this piece of history!

The AMW is a foundation, founded in 1991 and working all over the Netherlands. The AMW’s main task is to prevent the deterioration of archaeological monuments by advising landowners about mitigating measures that should be taken and what kind of maintenance should be executed to prevent decay of the archaeological remains.

Landowners and –managers, but also local authorities can subscribe to our services.

With an experience of more than 20 years the AMW is without doubt the designated non-profit organization for the management and preservation of archaeology in situ. Besides archaeological monuments we also advise on the management of historical landscapes and structures therein.
